Georgia O'Keeffe book, 1943-1998, undated
Overview
This series contains reflections and observations of a nature Maria Chabot considered private. These were found with a note, Sept. 22, 1960, asking that the material be burned. In MC's final legal testament there is no provision for destruction of any material. There were no restrictions placed upon the collection by the donor. Much material herein is similar to other writings found in MC's self-analysis files also written in 1949 and 1950. There are also reflections from 1977 and collection of notes from 1948-1949, which MC noted were to be shared only with Barbara Lynes. There are also un-sent letters from MC to GOK. Only one of these is dated, Jan. 26, 1949. All were found in the "MC Personal, Self-Analysis, 1950" files. Includes MC's analysis of her relationship with O'Keeffe based on reading Eric Fromm, Eric Berne, and Karen Horney. Also, MC notes and various concepts for a book she wanted to write on O'Keeffe, their relationship and time together in Abiquiu. Loose notes and two notebooks date from the 1940s to 1990s. There are also notes on MC's response to O'Keeffe's retrospective exhibition at MOMA, 1946, and a file of quotations from O'Keeffe. A copy of Georgia O'Keeffe [Viking Press, 1976] inscribed by O'Keeffe to MC was moved to the library. This volume was found with many paper place marks with notes by MC. These were removed for conservation sake and are retained in a folder in this series with notation of their previous placement in the book.
