Oral histories

Mary Grether Ligon (b. 1951) worked for two years for O'Keeffe as a night and weekend helper, performing a variety of duties. Ligon was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Belarmino (Mino) Lopez (b. 1958) is one of a third generation of family members to work for O'Keeffe. He came to work for O'Keeffe in 1973 as a part-time helper in the garden. He eventually became a full-time personal assistant, helping with the creation of some of her later works. He was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Candelaria Suazo Lopez (b. 1925) was O'Keeffe's cook from 1971 to 1985. Her father, Estiben Suazo, was O'Keeffe's longtime gardener. Five of her children worked for O’Keeffe and subsequently for The Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation and Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Lopez was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Sue Davidson Lowe (b. 1922) is the grandniece of Alfred Stieglitz and the daughter of Elizabeth and Donald Davidson, who were close friends of O'Keeffe. She is the author of the book, Stieglitz: A Memoir/Biography, and an authority on the Stieglitz family. Lowe was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Judy Margolis is the owner of Origins, a designer clothing boutique through which O'Keeffe ordered custom clothing. Margolis was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Norma B. Marin is the widow of John Marin, Jr., the son of American modernist painter John Marin. John Marin, Sr. was a close friend of O'Keeffe and was represented by Alfred Stieglitz's gallery. Marin was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Robin McKinney Martin (b. 1954) is the owner of the Santa Fe New Mexican and the Taos News. Both papers were formerly owned by her father Robert M. McKinney (1910–2001). Her mother Louise Trigg, a prominent figure in the Santa Fe cultural community, was a friend of O'Keeffe and is credited with encouraging O'Keeffe to consent to using her painting for a series of Chamber Music Festival posters. Margaret (Peg) Pack McKinley (b. 1927) is the daughter of Eleanor (Brownie) Hibben (1898–1992) and Arthur Newton Pack (1893–1975). In 1933 Pack established a guest ranch and nature preserve known as Ghost Ranch. O'Keeffe stayed in the Pack's house during her trips to New Mexico in the early 1930s and eventually purchased the house and six acres from Pack in 1940. Pack and his family were life-long friends of O'Keeffe. McKinley was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Arnold Newman (1918-2006) is acknowledged as one of the great masters of 20th century photography, in particular as it relates to portraiture. Newman was encouraged in his early work by Stieglitz and photographed both Stieglitz and O'Keeffe. Newman was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Robert (Bob) Donald Ray (1924-2002) was a painter who is a recognized member of the Taos Moderns. He met O'Keeffe on several occasions through their mutual friend, Otto Pitcher. Ray was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Ellen Bradbury Reid (b. 1940) is an art historian and Mabel Dodge Luhan scholar. She met O'Keeffe while director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe and convinced O'Keeffe to donate several paintings to the museum. Reid was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Nancy Hopkins Reily (b. 1934) is a writer and photographer. She met O'Keeffe as a child when her family started spending summers in Abiquiu during the 1940s. Her aunt Helen Louise Morten (1900-1984) was a friend of O'Keeffe. Reily has published two books about O'Keeffe. Reily was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Louis Rosen (1918-2009) was a physicist at Los Alamos Laboratories. He and his wife Mary (Terry) Rosen (1918-2004), an artist in her own right, became friends with O'Keeffe after being introduced by Elizabeth Allred, O'Keeffe's neighbor. Rosen was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Benjamin Sanders owned an electronics business in Santa Fe. He met O'Keeffe in the 1950s and subsequently became the primary supplier of stereo equipment for both the Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch houses. Sanders and O'Keeffe shared a love of classical music and remained good friends over the years. Sanders was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

June O'Keeffe Sebring (b. 1928) is the niece of O'Keeffe and daughter of Alexius Wyckoff O'Keeffe and Elizabeth (Betty) Jones. She was a member of the board of directors of The Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation. Sebring visited O'Keeffe throughout the course of her lifetime. Sebring was interviewed by Sarah Burt.

Earl Stroh (1924-2005) was a painter and member of the Taos Moderns who was acquainted with O'Keeffe. Stroh was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Jan Henry Sultan is a body worker trained in rolfing techniques. He became O'Keeffe's rolfer in New Mexico upon referral by Dr. Ida P. Rolf. Sultan was interviewed by Jane Cook.

Floyd E. Trujillo (1934-2019) was the longtime assistant ranch land supervisor for the Ghost Ranch Presbyterian Conference Center north of Abiquiu. O'Keeffe hired Trujillo to do odd jobs including stretching canvases and chauffeuring. Trujillo was interviewed by Sarah Burt.
